Evergrey

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Evergrey is a progressive metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden. The band was founded in 1996 and released its debut album The Dark Discovery in 1998. Their most recent album is Monday Morning Apocalypse, released in 2006.
Evergrey's lyrics have always been of the darker sort. The same can be said of the band's imagery. While The Dark Discovery dealt with a variety of ideas, later albums have been concept albums, dealing with issues like self-reformation (Recreation Day), paranoia, alien abduction (In Search of Truth), child abuse, cults and religion (The Inner Circle).
Recreation Day is an album that covers many issues, ranging from death and mourning to general fear and sorrow, all of which contribute to a greater concept of re-creation of oneself. These ideas are explored from many different points of view, such as someone contemplating suicide ("As I Lie Bleeding"), mourners after a funeral ("I'm Sorry," a cover of Dilba Demirbag's hit), and dying people's looking back on their "unforgivable" sins ("Unforgivable Sin"). "Unforgivable Sin" also acted as a catalyst for the next album, (The Inner Circle), which dealt with the same two issues described in the song: religion and child abuse.
On May 08, 2008, Evergrey announced that they have signed a deal with Steamhammer/SPV. This includes the release of their new album and the entire back catalogue. It also was announced that the new album, TORN, will be released early in September. As the deal includes the bands entire back catalog, there is the possibility of re-releases of previous Evergrey albums with the inclusion of added bonus material.

Eluveitie

Eluveitie (pronounced el-vey-ti) is a folk metal band from Switzerland. Their sound can be described as Celtic folk metal with melodic death metal influences. The band formed in 2002 and their first EP, Vên came out in 2003. The band has since then released a full length album, Spirit. In November 2007, Eluveitie was signed by Nuclear Blast. The first product of the collaboration, Slania, was released in February 2008. The album peaked at number 35 in the Swiss charts and number 98 in the German charts.
One of Eluveitie's two largest draws is their liberal, virtuosic use of traditional instruments amidst guitars and Chrigel's wide ranging, emotional screams. The other is their lyrics; instead of any of the languages currently spoken in their home country, the screams, clean vocals, and occasional spoken word parts are often in the extinct language Gaulish. Eluveitie is Etruscan for "the Helvetian", referring to an inscription dating to the earliest record of the Celtic Helvetii tribe from what is now Switzerland.

Evidence One

Evidence One is a Heavy Metal band from Germany formed in 2001.
The story of EVIDENCE ONE starts in early 2001, when DOMAIN vocalist Carsten "Lizard" Schulz and AOR HEAVEN boss Georg Siegl hook up at a KANSAS show in Munich. When Georg tells Carsten about his plans of releasing a solo album of FRONTLINE mastermind Robby Boebel, the singer, as a long-time FRONTLINE fan, immediately catches fire and a couple months later, while DOMAIN and SHAKRA are touring Germany on their Melodic Return tour, he gets to hear the first couple instrumental demo songs. To make a long story short, in late November 2001 Boebel and Schulz start writing material for this solo album. The collaboration becomes amazingly productive: At their first meeting they write their first two killer tracks and even manage record all guitar and vocal parts in two days. Both musicians soon realize that this is more than just a solo project. They decide to form a new band, and as quick as the songwriting emerges, they have together their new band, named EVIDENCE ONE.
Originally ment to play the bass parts on his solo album, they ask Robby's FRONTLINE band mate Thomas "Hutch" Bauer to join in, and quickly find the perfect match to complete the line up with SHAKRA powerhouse drummer Roger Tanner, who Carsten knew from their co-headlining tour.
Within only a few sessions at his own studio Robby Boebel produces an album with EVIDENCE ONE, which can definetely be called one of the Melodic Rock hightlights of the last years. No matter, if it's Hard Rock headbangers like the title track "Criticize The Truth" or the cool "In The Beginning There Was Fire", epic, but melodic tracks like "Trust Vs. Heart" or "Fool's Gold", or even solo guitar-driven blasters as "Like Never Before", it almost seems, like the guys have naturally been producing and playing together for years.
Not every so called all-star-project can proove, what the main bands do promise, but EVIDENCE ONE simply sets new standards.

Current line-up: Mr. Connie Andreszka : GuitarThomas "Hutch" Bauer : Bass Jörg Wartmann : Guitar Carsten "Lizard" Schulz : Vocals Rami Ali : Drums Justice,

Former members: Robby Boebel : Guitar, Keyboard Wolfgang "Schimmi" Schimmer : Guitar

Elis

Elis is a gothic metal band from Liechtenstein, formed in 2003 after the split of Erben der Schöpfung in 2002. Elis began their musical career under the name 'Erben Der Schöpfung' in 2000. In 2001, they released their first single "Elis" as well as their debut album Twilight. The band has appeared live at the Wave Gotik Festival in Leipzig, among others, has held on to favorable positioning on the DAC-Charts, and has remained well represented in the scene's press. Germany's Orkus Magazine, for example, featured Erben Der Schöpfung as their top newcomer act of the month. This choice was later more than confirmed by the publications readership, who extended the honor by choosing the band as their Newcomer of 2001.
Following their split with Oliver Falk, the band re-emerged in 2003 under the new alias Elis. Produced at Mastersound Studio by Alexander Krull (Atrocity, Leaves' Eyes), God's Silence, Devil's Temptation was simultaneously released on Napalm Records with the re-release of Erben Der Schöpfung's 2001 debut, Twilight.
Soon after the release of God's Silence, Devil's Temptation, Elis focused their energy on writing new material for their second offering. Between their song writing and recording duties, they found time to tour in a headlining capacity with label mates Eisheilig and The Vision Bleak. The tour took them to Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium.

Ebony Ark

Ebony Ark is a Power/Progressive Metal band. At the end of 2002 Javier Jiménez and Rubén Villanueva (guitars) shared a musical vision that they sought to bring to bring to the masses. After recruiting bass player Daniel Melián, EBONY ARK was finally born. After a series of fluid line-ups Beatriz Albert (vocals) and Jorge Sáez (drums) proved to be the final pieces of the puzzle. The band released their first demo in March 2004, containing 6 tracks, one of them being a cover of Irene Cara’s “What a feeling”.
A few months later, Javier Díez joined the band as a keyboard player. In October 2004, EBONY ARK’s first studio album “Decoder” was released, including 11 tracks peppered with great songs like “Dead Men’s Lives”, “Searching for an Answer” and “Thorn of Ice”. Their blend of hard-hitting metal with a progressive edge and Beatriz’s powerful vocals over the top proved to be a winning formula for the metal audience, and they received many plaudits from both press and fans alike. EBONY ARK had started with a bang and deservedly pushed their way to the front in the international metal world. After touring all over Spain in February 2005, Jorge Sáez and Javier Díez left the band due to their commitments lying elsewhere. Iván (drums) and Diego (synth) joined Ebony Ark and the band became more stable. In June of the same year they shot their first video clip for their single “Thorn of Ice” in their hometown of Madrid.
What followed was a busy time for the band, with concerts and rehearsals mixed with the composition of new songs for their new album. Their first concert outside Spain was on May 4th 2006 supporting the Dutch band EPICA in a very special show in Amsterdam’s infamous Paradiso venue. In May they started recording Decoder 2.0 for their new label Transmission Records. Unfortunately Transmission Records went bankrupt before the album could be scheduled and never saw the light of day.
Many bands would buckle under the stress of seeing their hard work go down the pan, but Ebony Ark are stronger than that. They set about finding a new deal, and after negotiations with several labels chose the fast-rising UK-based Ascendance Records as their new home. They will shortly be going into the studio to record their next album for an early 2008 release.

Exciter

Exciter are a Canadian thrash metal band from Ottawa. Despite many changes in personnel, they have managed to keep a small but dedicated following for nearly 20 years. In 1978 the band Hell Razor formed in Ottawa ON, Canada. The band consisted of John Ricci (guitars), Dan Beehler (drums) and Allan James Johnson (bass). In 1980 they changed their name to Exciter and recorded a demo which they then sent to Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records. Varney included one song from it, "World War III", on the compilation album US Metal Volume II in 1982. Shortly after that Exciter were signed to Shrapnel Records. In 1983 they released their debut album, Heavy Metal Maniac.
Later that year Exciter signed a record-deal with Jon Zazula's Megaforce Records and 1984 they released their second album, Violence & Force. After a few opening dates with Anthrax they embarked on their first U.S. tour with Mercyful Fate. Exciter switched to a new label, Music For Nations and traveled to London to record their third album (produced by Motörhead producer Guy Bidmead). The album would be titled Long Live the Loud. It was a slightly more 'mainstream' heavy metal sound than the speed/thrash metal of the first two albums. After its release the band went on a European tour with Accept and later a U.S. tour with Motörhead and Megadeth. Before the year ended they released the 3-track EP Feel the Knife, which was the last release from the original line-up. Shortly after its release, John Ricci quit the band and was replaced by Brian McPhee.
